Graffiti – Mindless Hooliganism or Pure Art?
It’s a Marmite thing, maybe you love it, perhaps you hate it and possibly you’ve even done a teensy-weensy bit of graffiti yourself. One of the most popular remembrance pieces of street art is the Biggie Smalls painting in Brooklyn, New York. Street art has always been somewhat of an riveting art form to enter into or just keep an eye on. “Tags” are used to express “I was here”. There’s commonly a interesting story behind each creation, so don’t be hasty in waving them aside as petty vandalism or hooliganism. Some people consider it art while others believe it vandalism. With the evolution of the hip-hop motion, memorials dedicated to companions who have passed on have appeared. The street art tags, memorials and characters that get painted everywhere are a reflection of oneself and a superior skill. This has led to rivalry amongst graffiti groups to hide as much of their competitors’ art as manageable.
There are many different types of graffiti. Also, crews have been noted to employ them in order to show their soil. Graffiti memorials aren’t merely for superstars though, as there are many memorials depicted around the Earth for those attached in the street art area, who would be unknown outside of the scene. While some graffiti is painted on walls and buildings where it is illicit to do such things, it’s considered highly insulting if some other artist paints over another person’s street art.
Thankfully, many Councils have installed places that are deemed street art friendly, where artists can come and spray paint to their heart’s content. This has granted some artists such as Banksy infamy outside the area and made a few artists extremely rich.
