Fashion at Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese. International photo exhibition together with Polka Galerie
Following the successful experience in France at Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg, Sofitel Luxury Hotels once again join with the popular Parisien gallery Polka, for a unique touring exhibition, taking place each time simultaneously in two destinations, one in North America and one in Europe.
Launched at the same time at Sofitel New York and Sofitel London Saint James, for the Fashion Week, the exhibit will be held in the striking setting of Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese and simultaneously at Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile, for two months beginning November 25. Unique images of the privileged glossy universe of High Fashion with legendary names such as Chanel, Gianfranco Ferré, Yves St. Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld and many others are featured.
Marie–Bérengère Chapoton, General Manager of Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese declares, “ We are proud to bring this important photographic exhibit to Rome. French culture combined with the elegance of the photos confirms the role of our hotel as reference point for art on scene in Rome.”
Opening the way to the fascinating fashion world, “Fashion Stills – Si la mode m’etait contèe”, features photos taken by famed photographers such as Derek Hudson, Françoise Huguier, Jean-Marie Périer, and Gérard Uféras.
British photographer Derek Hudson was inspired at an early age by Antonioni’s film “Blow Up” which made him to decide to sign up in a photo club. Later he became one of the founders of Fleet Street in London, historic district for the British press. After spending 20 years in the United States, he now lives in Paris.
Françoise Huguier won “The World Press Photo” award in 1993 for a photographic travel diary, He was one of the first in the art of mixing classic techniques of photographic coverage with fashion photos. He lives outside of Paris after having spent his early years in French Cambodia where she was held prisoner for 8 months by the Viet Minh soldiers.
Jean-Marie Périer began his career at age 16 as photographer of French nouvelle vague musicals as well as for Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry and the Beatles thanks to his friendship with Daniel Filipacchi future founder of Hachette Filipacchi Medias. After dedicating a period of time to films and advertising in the United States, he returned to his first love with photos of crazy colorful set designs published by Elle magazine.
Winner of the Villa Medici Award in 1990 Gerard Uféras received the World Press in 1997 and is co-founder of the VU agency. Gèrard Mortier, the great orchestra conductor has said, “He respects amazement, celebrates the spirit of people of the theater, gives information and excitement.”
Polka Galerie and Sofitel bring through these artists an essential contribution to the vitality of contemporary photography, offering the public and collectors selected images for their quality, strength and truth.
